The Orbis Sentry Report
Current Geopolitical Trends and Developments
A couple of weeks ago, George Olson, Director of Geopolitical and Economic Research at Orbis Sentry, sat down with myself to do a two-part podcast interview on geopolitical trends and worldview issues. The following is George’s description. Part 2 will be published on Convergence soon.
This is the first of a 2 part series on worldview discussions. In the first part, we discuss current geopolitical trends, the events recently happening in Asia, the current state of global financial markets, and how the turmoil in these markets is a reflection of the shifts in geopolitical power structures, which in turn is a reflection of the changing worldviews on a global scale.
It is important for God’s people in the church to understand these things, especially for those who are connected with young people at the high school and college level. Young people will tend to become political activists if they are stirred emotionally by what they are seeing in the world around them, especially if they are negatively affected by global events. If they notice that things are out of balance and not working, and they go to their pastors, parents, or youth leaders to ask what they think, they need to be given solid answers that make sense. If they are not given solid answers that make sense, they will then look for answers from those who do not hold to a Christian worldview, and will be pulled away into the Re-enchantment worldview that is constantly seeking to separate young people from a relationship with God through Christ.

Just taking in your previous Orbis Sentry. As you mentioned the need to set aside a week for bolstering 20th-century historical context for folks, the conversation brought to mind a song I love by the late great artist Loyd Boldman. A Christian and a Canadian, his lyrics really are top-notch (and I’ve always enjoyed the 80’s-era musicianship, despite not being born until the 90’s) https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Prz-vEA-m08
The “you” in the song is God, as the songwriter observes and ruminates on a world content to retreat further and further from the source of truth.
The whole solo record is great, especially if you can find the remastered version. All 3 albums by his band Prodigal are stellar, appreciated by too few here in the US.
